| Useful
Travel Info Online |
 |
Good
information and advice on travel queries are now only a
click of the mouse away - it's just a question of
knowing where to look. From finding the best route to
info on the euro, here are some of the most useful
websites:
MONEY If you are planning a trip to Europe and want
to find out more about the euro, the best websites
include the European Central Bank's http://www.ecb.int
which gives general information on the new currency (with
pictures of the banknotes and coins) plus a useful
country-by- country timetable listing both the cut-off
date for using old currency as legal tender and
deadlines for exchanging it at commercial or national
central banks.
THE UNIVERSAL CURRENCY CONVERTER http://www.xe.com/ucc/
The Universal Currency Converter, the world's most
popular currency tool, allows you to perform interactive
foreign exchange rate calculations on the Internet,
using live, up-to-the-minute currency rates. To start,
simply type the amount of source currency in the input
box. Next, select the source and destination currencies
using the scrolling selection boxes. (Note that there
are far more currencies available than the initial five
displayed.) When you are finished, push the "Perform
Currency Conversion" button, and the results of
your conversion will be displayed.
WEATHER A couple of websites offer useful five-day
forecasts for destinations worldwide. The Meteorological
Office address is http://www.metoffice.com/weather/index.html
and is particularly strong on UK and European areas. For
a more detailed breakdown of specific areas and regions
outside Europe, try the BBC's website http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather.
This gives a daily summary with pressure maps and
temperature charts plus an excellent search facility
providing details such as rainfall, relative humidity,
windspeed, visibility and times for sunrise and sunset (plus
air pollution and sun index if relevant) for a large
number of different places.

| Follow
in the footsteps of James Bond! |
 |
Are
you brave enough to follow in the footsteps of James
Bond? If so, here is your chance to try ice diving in
Tignes, France!
Ice diving is a thrilling, demanding and extreme
activity suited for people with stamina to cold
environment and a fancy for staying outdoors. For those
of you who wish to escape the hustle and bustle of
Christmas preparations, join Inghams Travels for an
refreshing Ice Diving experience.
Between Dec - April when the lake at Tignes is
covered in thick ice, you can get kitted up in a thermal
dive suit and go for a 15 minute tethered dive through a
hole cut in the ice with an experienced instructor. It
costs 65 euro and no dive qualifications are needed.
Comprehensive instruction is given prior to the dive to
maintain safety.
The approximate temperature of the water you'll be
diving in is 1°C. It is not actually at freezing point
and the clear water under the ice is slightly warmer.
The particulate matter in the lake during the winter
freeze up tends to fall to the bottom, the wind on the
lake which can continually stir up the lake surface is
no longer a factor and the water tends to become very
clear. One of the interesting things under the ice is
the ice water interface. The ice adjacent to the water
tends to remind one of a large ice cube, with bubbles
trapped in the ice. Follow the link below for
destination info and contact Inghams for more info or to
book your ice diving adventure!
