Town: Terni (central)
Long dismissed as Tuscany's "gentler sister", the region of Umbria has recently emerged from the shadow of its more famous western neighbour. Forming an expanse of gentlepastoral countryside and high mountain wilderness, the picturesque region has been dubbed the "Green Heart of Italy".
Umb
ria is also well known for the beauty and profusion of its medieval hill towns.

Terni - the name of the town derives from the term "interamna", which means "between two rivers", a clear reference to the setting of the town at the confluence of the stream Serra with the river Nera.
The valley where Terni is situated, a natural amphitheatre surrounded by green hills, was already inhabited in prehistoric times. It was once a Roman municipium and acquired some importance as a trading centre.

Today, Terni is a modern town, characterised by regular wide streets lined with trees. Many of the buildings standing along the principal streets were rebuilt in the post-war period, while some are decidedly more ancient.
The pleasant centre of the town reveals surprising corners where interesting remains of the past recall other ages and different lifestyles.

Town: Foggia/S.Giovanni Rotondo (south east)

If Italy is known as the "boot", the Puglia region is the heel of the boot. The region's trademark is the 760 km long shoreline that makes Puglia one of the most popular tourist places in Italy. Foggia, is situated at the centre of the Tavoliere plain, at the convergence of the major communication routes that link the south of Italy to the north and the Adriatic Sea to the Tyrrenhian. Thanks to its favourable geographic position, Foggia has expanded greatly as a commercial centre. Already in the 12th century the town was an active agricultural market exporting wool, livestock and wheat. Every year S. Giovanni Rotondo is host to one of the most important farming and livestock fairs in southern Italy, a long-standing tradition dating back to the 13th century.
It is also a busy industrial centre operating within the paper, metallurgical, mechanical, textile and food processing sectors.
