No olympic effect on Athens tourism |
 |
The Olympic Games gave the city of Athens a tremendous facelift
and great marketing around the world. But the expected increase
in tourism has still not arrived.
The Olympic Games gave the hosts a troubled economy, but also led to
several good things. The Greek capital was refurbished before the
Games started. New metro lines were constructed, a facelift was
given to the city centre with new streets for pedestrians and new
green areas. Even the infamous polluted air in Athens became
cleaner.
Still, the tourism board in Greece now expect a rise in tourism in
the foreseeable future. The ancient city has a lot to offer, and
with 11 Hotel Express member hotels awaiting, perhaps Athens could
be your next destination?
